Bernard is a highly accomplished Senior Research and Policy Analyst at the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) and the Population, Environment, and Development (PED) Director of the USAID-funded BUILD Project.<\/p>\n
With an extensive background in social demography and sustainable development, Dr Onyango has led studies and policy work on the demographic dividend in over 15 countries in Africa since 2015. He holds a PhD in Sociology (Demography and Urban Sociology) from Brown University.<\/p>\n
As Population, Environment, and Development (PED) Director, Dr Onyango provides technical leadership for the BUILD Project, a multi-country initiative funded by USAID that seeks to integrate voluntary family planning, reproductive health, and PED integration in sustainable development policies and programs. Dr Onyango has a portfolio of research projects and publications focusing on demography, children’s well-being, education, health, fertility, urbanization, and development policy in sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n
