Richard joins AFIDEP as Project Director on the Platform for Dialogue and Action on Health Technologies in Africa (Health Tech Platform).<\/p>\n
He is a Biomedical Scientist (Medical Entomology\/Parasitology\/Epidemiology) with vast international experience and linkages, accrued through a hitherto productive scientific career.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He brings to AFIDEP his successful and long-term scientific experience in the not-for-profit Research and Development sector as well as at an African Public University, an opportunity for him to provide us with a reflective African leadership that will steer the use of cutting-edge tools and services for malaria and vector-borne disease control.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Richard has previously served as the local lead of the Department of Entomology and vector borne diseases at the US Army Medical Research Unit in Kenya (USAMRU-K) and as head\u00a0<\/span>of the Human Health Division of the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology \u00a0<\/span>(ICIPE) in Kenya. He was part of the team that scientifically designed and directed the first ever \u2018Drones for malaria control in Africa (Zanzibar)\u2019 project among other things.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He holds a Ph.D in medical Entomology from Wageningen University, Netherlands, a Master\u2019s Degree in Medical Parasitology, and a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Biology from the University of Nairobi and Egerton University in Kenya respectively. Currently he is studying for a Masters in Business Administration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In his free time, Richard enjoys exploring nature and talking to children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":28965,"template":"","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false},"staff_type":[946],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n
