Effective policy engagement strategies require some understanding of the policymaking processes and the incentives and disincentives of Evidence-informed Decision making (EIDM) in the public sector. EIDM is defined as a process in which high-quality evidence from research, local data, and professional experiences is synthesised, disseminated, and applied to decision-making in policy and practice (Yost et al., 2014; Belita et al., 2018; Motani et al., 2019).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Overall, this interactive workshop will focus on leadership in policy engagement and research uptake. Through the development of institutional strategies and the follow-on mentorship and support, we will contribute to sustainable practices in policy engagement and research uptake.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Introduction to Evidence-Informed Decision-Making\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Developing Institutional Strategies for Policy Engagement and Research Uptake i. Engagement objectives, mapping key stakeholders, spheres of influence.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. ii. Communications plans- strategic communication tools, collaborating with knowledge translators and the media.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. iii. Involving policymakers in research advisory committees; participating in policy advisory committee.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. iv. Developing a monitoring and evaluation framework – theory of change, outputs and outcomes to measure.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. <\/li>\n
  7. Generating demand for evidence uptake; lobbying for research and knowledge translation funding.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
